I’ve been drawn to business for as long as I can remember. As a child, I sold candy, cut hair in high school, and helped my mother in her business before eventually earning my accounting degree, becoming a CPA, and spending more than 25 years working as a CFO.
When I begin working with a client, I start by understanding the business. I want to know how it operates, how it is priced, how profitable it is, how cash flows through the company, and what processes are in place. I ask questions, listen carefully, and work to understand what is really driving the results.
The numbers tell part of the story. They show what’s working, what’s not working, and where opportunities exist. From there, I focus on identifying practical solutions and helping businesses make meaningful improvements.
Early in my career, I believed that if business owners understood the numbers, they would naturally make the changes their businesses needed.
What I discovered was that understanding the numbers doesn’t automatically create change.
Even when owners understood exactly what needed to happen, making the change wasn’t always easy. Raising prices, addressing performance issues, changing processes, making investments, delegating responsibilities, or having difficult conversations often required more than information alone.
That realization shaped the way I approach my work today.
I don’t just help business owners understand what’s happening in their business. I help them identify what needs to change and move those changes forward.
